September 30, 2008 Connie Kuhnle Featured in "Potpourri" Art Show at Pine Rest's Bruce and Mary Leep Gallery A new art show featuring work by Rockford-based artist Connie Kuhnle opens September 30 at the Bruce and Mary Leep Art Gallery, located in the Postma Center on the main campus of Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services, 300 68th Street, Grand Rapids.
Titled “Potpourri,” the show represents a mixture of subject matter the artist enjoys, from portraits of people to painting from life at on-location outdoor rural settings, a technique known as plein air painting. “What ties the various subject matter together is my pursuit of capturing the light, the expression of the uniqueness of personality or place and the evidence of the presence of God in all his creation,” says Kuhnle of the pieces in the exhibit.
Connie Kuhnle studied fine arts and illustration at Michigan State University and graduated from Kendall College of Art and Design. Kuhnle’s award-winning works in pastel have been shown in over 25 national, international and regional juried art competitions. Her art has been featured in several art publications and books, including Sketch magazine, “The Best of Pastel” (Quarry Books, 2000) and “200 Great Painting Ideas” (North Light Books, 1998). Her paintings can be seen in private and corporate collections throughout west Michigan as well as the Byrneboehm Gallery in Grand Rapids, Button Gallery in Douglas, and Synchronicity Gallery in Glen Arbor.
“Potpourri” runs from September 30 through January 6, 2009. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday thru Friday, additional times available by appointment. For more information, interested persons should call 616/222-4530.
