Myths and Facts about ECT

Myth: ECT causes brain damage.
FACT: There is no scientific evidence that ECT causes brain damage.

Myth: ECT can cause you to have a seizure disorder.
FACT: Because ECT has an anticonvulsant effect, you have less of a chance of having spontaneous seizures.

Myth: ECT is painful.
FACT: You are asleep throughout your treatment and feel no pain.

Myth: ECT causes hard convulsions.
FACT: A muscle relaxant is given so that only your hands and feet move a little.
